I once knew a guy who kept an endless supply of powerbars in his glove compartment. His reason was that whenever he was with his girlfriend, and she hadn't eaten, the powerbars would get her out of any bad mood she was in.
This anecdote thrilled me for I then knew that there were other people out there like me. No, I'm not proud that hunger makes me a monster to be around. But, at least I know that I'm not the only one who is so ruled by food.
Whenever my mother comes over -- usually when the three of us are going to go somewhere -- she asks Ben the same question: "Has she eaten?" And then Ben either rolls his eyes and says "not yet" or answers "yes" with an air of accomplishment.
I'm quick to make up pseudo-diagnoses of my ailments and this mood/food problem has been blamed on low blood sugar levels. Of course, I just made that up to cover up the fact that, for most of my waking hours, I'm a bitch.
But give me a fruit-by-the-foot and you'll soon see that it doesn't take much to bring me back to Earth.
What gets you out of a bad mood?
